A country with four other countries belonging to it, UK or officially called the Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or simply known as United Kingdom, England or Great Britain. This country was once the strongest world power and had conquests from the Far East to the west. Their glory might have diminished but the country and its people are still proud of their heritage. UK is constituted mainly o England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The country is comprised of the island of Great Britain and the northern part of Ireland, which is the only part of the country that shares a border with another country. Besides this, the country is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea, the English Channel and the Irish Sea. It lies on the northwestern part of Europe but is completely separated from the continent.

The official language is English while a large percentage of the residents speak other languages like Welsh, Scottish, Gaelic and Irish. It is home to 61 million people.

The climate is moderate with rainfalls half the year. The temperatures could be as low as -11°C or as high as 35°C. Snow can be experienced during winter and spring.

Handshaking is a tradition if meeting someone for the first time. Small gifts or flowers should be given to the host when visiting. Keep in mind that everyone should be served before eating. Hotels, restaurants and other services expect a tip of 10-15%. There are designated areas for smoking and they are strictly observed.

The United Kingdom is a melting pot of both historic and modern places to see. London is home to the famous Royal house also known as Buckingham Palace, the Hampton Court Palace is also located in the city, the Kensington Gardens, Whitehall Palace, the Tower of London and the famous London Bridge.

Scotland also boasts their Bannockburn Heritage Center and Ben Lawers Mountains while Wales have their Aberdulais Falls, King Arthur’s famous Labyrinth, Dolaiucothi, Gold Mines, Orme Mines, Portmeirion Village, Rhossili Visitor Centre, TechinQuest and the Taff Valley Activity Centre.

British Airways connects UK to almost all major cities and destinations. There are two international airports in London: Heathrow and Gatwick. Almost all airlines pass through London as this is a famous hub for international flights from east to west.

It also has many ports because of the waters surrounding and there are ferries which connect UK to the rest of Europe. There are also trains that one can ride to Belgium, France, Germany and Spain from Victoria Station in London while you can also go to Germany, The Netherlands and Scandinavia through Liverpool Street. The channel tunnel makes it possible for vehicles to enter UK.
